PLOVER LEGION BASEBALL DROPS TWO GAMES AT MARINETTE TRIANGULAR

MARINETTE – The Plover American Legion baseball team dropped both ends of a triangular at Pederson Park on Saturday, losing to host Marinette 3-2 and to Appleton Post 38 6-5 in nine innings.
Plover was limited to just two hits in the opener against Marinette, both coming in the third inning when the Black Sox scored both of their runs.
Brock Birrenkott had a double and scored on a groundout by Kaleb Mayer. Matt Eiden, who had singled, ended up scoring on another groundout by Kaden Thauer to tie the game at 2-2.
Marinette scored what proved to be the game-winner in the fourth.
Carl Biechler suffered the loss for Plover, striking out three in five innings.
Tommy Drohner had three hits and Thomas Hunt had a hit and three RBI for Plover against Appleton.
Plover took a 5-4 lead with a three-run sixth before Appleton tied it with a run in the top of the seventh, and pulled out the win with another tally in the ninth.
Plover (1-2) will host a triangular on Sunday. The Black Sox will take on Viroqua at 11 a.m., Viroqua will play Sheboygan at 1:30 p.m., and Plover will finish off the day with a game against Sheboygan at 4 p.m. at Memorial Park.
