SPORTSDESK – The Plover Black Sox are the 2019 Wisconsin Valley Legion League champions. The Sox clinched the outright title last night with a convincing 10-1 win over the Wausau Bulldogs.
With weather in the Wausau area during the afternoon, it was decided to move the game to Plover, with Wausau remaining as the home team on the scoreboard. With Plover batting in the top of the first inning as the visitor, Cam Stampfl drew a one out bases loaded walk, scoring Brett Ehr. The Black Sox then lit up the scoreboard in the third inning when they scored nine runs. During the third, the Sox walked four times, had three singles, two doubles, scored on a passed ball and a sac fly to round out the inning.
The Bulldogs were able to scratch one across in the bottom of the fifth before Ehr slammed the door in relief of Kenny Schultz to preserve the 10-1 win.
Plover adds 2019 to their impressive list of legion baseball championships; 1988, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and now 2019. It appears that others in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League will need to keep worrying about Plover in the years to come. The Junior Sox punched their ticket to the state tournament with an 11-7 win over Marshfield on Monday night.
The Jr. Sox play their first game in the 2019 state championship in Marshfield at 1:30pm Friday vs Bay Port. The Sr. Sox take on Stevens Point in the regional tournament on Friday at 5pm at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point. The game will be broadcast live for you to watch at zaleskisports.com/live-sports.
