STEVENS POINT – Pacelli rallied from a five-run deficit to score six times in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated Iola-Scandinavia 6-5 in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal Tuesday at Bukolt Park.
No. 2 seed Pacelli (17-11) will play a Division 4 regional final at No. 1 seed Rosholt (17-3) on Wednesday. Rosholt, the Central Wisconsin Conference South Division champions, handed Pacelli its only two conference losses this season as the Hornets won both games by one run.
Iola-Scandinavia, which came into the game with just two wins this season, gave the Cardinals all they could handle.
The Thunderbirds scored three times in the third inning and added two in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
Marcus Jaworski was on top of his game on the mound for Iola-Scandinavia, striking out 10 in five innings, but he couldn’t get through the sixth.
Nick Helms doubled home a run, another scored on an error, Peyton Flees had a two-run single and Brycen Cashin doubled home Flees to tie the game, before another error allowed the go-ahead run to score.
Iola-Scandinavia loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh before Asher Jordan struck out the final batter to save it for Pacelli.
