NEWMAN CATHOLIC SINKS 22 3-POINTERS IN HOME WIN OVER ASSUMPTION

WAUSAU – The Wausau Newman Catholic boys basketball team made 22 3-pointers, six each by Mason Prey and Conner Krach, as the Cardinals cruised to an 86-62 win over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday night at Newman Catholic High School. The 22 made three point shots is a new Marawood Conference record.
Prey made four 3-pointers and scored 18 points, and Krach had five 3-pointers and 17 points in the first half as the Cardinals built a 51-23 lead heading into halftime.
Assumption outscored Newman by four in the second half, but the Cardinals’ lead was never in doubt as they made seven more 3-pointers to finish with 22.
Prey ended up with 28 points, Krach with 20, and Isaac Seidel added 11 on the strength of three long balls for Newman Catholic, which improves to 12-4 overall and 8-3 in the Marawood South.
Assumption made seven 3-pointers in the loss. Reed Duellman had a team-high 17 points and Ryan Shaw chipped in 11 points for the Royals (5-9, 3-7 Marawood South).
Assumption will play four home games over the next 10 days starting with a nonconference matchup with Stevens Point Pacelli on Saturday afternoon as part of a girls-boys doubleheader that starts at 1:30 p.m.
Newman Catholic will take a week off before plays a Marawood South game at Auburndale on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
