NEWMAN CATHOLIC, MARATHON, PACELLI AMONG TEAMS MOVING ON TO SECTIONALS AFTER WIAA D-3 GOLF REGIONAL

MARATHON – Wausau Newman Catholic won the team title, and Peyton Schuelke of Manawa and Noah Gage of Marathon tied for the individual championship at the WIAA Division 3 boys golf regional on Tuesday at Pine Valley Golf Course.


Newman Catholic shot a team score of 345, with Manawa second with a 363, Marathon third with a 375 and Stevens Point Pacelli fourth with a 395. The top four teams move on to the D-3 sectional on June 8 at Hunter’s Glen Golf Club in Crivitz.


The top four individuals not on those qualifying teams also move on to the sectional.


Earning individual spots were Wisconsin Valley Lutheran seniors Ethan Mehlberg and Christian Johnson, who tied for fourth with 84s, and Iola-Scandinavia sophomores Riley Gambsky, who tied for 13th with a 96, and Brandon Phillips, who tied for 18th with a 100.


Schuelke and Gage shot four-over pars 75 to share medalist honors. Newman Catholic’s Conner Krach was third with a 78.


Keler Anderson led Pacelli with an 89 and Logan Martin shot a 95.
