NEILLSVILLE RALLIES TO BEAT COLBY IN BATTLE OF CLOVERBELT EAST BOYS BASKETBALL UNBEATENS

COLBY – Cloverbelt Conference East Division leaders Colby and Neillsville battled to the bitter end with numerous ties and lead changes late in the second half, but one final push from the Warriors was enough to pull out a win.


Neillsville battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit only to see Colby take a four-point lead again with 2 minutes to go. From there, however, it was all Warriors as they scored game’s final 10 points to win 68-62 at Colby High School.


Neillsville is now 6-1 overall and remains undefeated in the Cloverbelt East at 5-0. Colby falls to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play.


Colby built a 40-33 lead behind four 3-pointers and 14 total points for Tevin Rue.


The Hornets started the second half hot as well, outscoring Neillsville 7-3 over the first 3½ minutes, to take a 47-36 lead.


Neillsville responded with a 15-2 run, going ahead 51-49.


The game had three times and four lead changes before Colby took a 62-58 lead with 2 minutes left.


Neillsville dominated the remainder of the game going on a 10-0 run to pull out the victory.


Andrew Brown had 26 points, Mason Roenz added 13 and Santana Subke had 11 for the Warriors.


Mateo Lopez scored 16 points for Colby. Rue finished with 14 as he didn’t score in the second half, and Richard Streveler added 12 points in the loss.


Neillsville also won a nonconference game Saturday, earning a 58-46 victory over Arcadia.


Brown hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points for Neillsville. Roenz added 13 points and Subke had 12.


Neillsville will compete at the Auburndale Holiday Tournament on Dec. 27-28, playing the host Eagles on Monday. Colby hosts Kohler for a nonconference game on Dec. 29.
