NEILLSVILLE/GREENWOOD/LOYAL WINS DIVISION 2 TITLE AT NORTHERN BADGER WRESTLING CLASSIC

RIVER FALLS – Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal had 10 place winners, including a three top-three finishes, to win the Division 2 team title at the Northern Badger Wrestling Classic, which was held Wednesday and Thursday at River Falls High School.
NGL earned 277 points to edge Cadott (260.5) for the team title in the Division 2 standings. Abbotsford/Colby was eighth with 102.5 points.
Edgar, the only other local team there, finished fourth in the Division 3 standings with 73 points. Waylon Wirkus earned the Wildcats’ only top-12 finish, taking fifth at 285 pounds.
Luke Dix finished second at 120 pounds for Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal, losing the championship match to Dawson Johnson of Cumberland, 6-5.
Tanner Halopka won the 145-pound title for Abbotsford/Colby, pinning NGL’s Jayme Zvolena in 2:53.
Gunner Hoffmann suffered his first loss of the season for the Warriors in the 220-pound semifinals before coming back to win his third-place match by pin. He is now 16-1 this season.
Other place winners for NGL were: Derek Zschernitz (fourth at 113), Hudzon Sebesta-Opelt (fifth at 132), Carter Schoengarth (seventh at 182), Dan Polzin (seventh at 195), Keeghan Anding (eighth at 152), Dane Luchterhand (eighth at 170), Jarick Young (11th at 138), and Ethan Buchanan (12th at 126).
Carter Grewe finished second for Abbotsford/Colby, losing in the 195-pound finals to Kale Hopke of Amery, 5-3.
