NEILLSVILLE GIRLS BASKETBALL BUCKLES DOWN ON DEFENSE, TOPS COLBY

NEILLSVILLE – Neillsville held Colby to 29 percent shooting and pulled out a 68-42 win over the Hornets in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Thursday night at Neillsville High School.


Neillsville jumped out to a 31-22 lead by halftime and built on its lead from there, and maintains its one-game lead over Loyal on top of the Cloverbelt East standings with only three conference games remaining in the season.


Neillsville is now 16-2 overall and 12-1 in conference play, while Colby falls to 11-7 and 9-5 in the Cloverbelt East.





Colby shot just 13 of 44 from the field overall. Hailey Voelker had 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Emma Peavey added 13 points for the Hornets.


Bella Opelt poured in 20 points and Alli Schoengarth had 15 for Neillsville.


Neillsville hosts Spencer on Tuesday, while Colby will have a week off before playing at home against those same Rockets on Friday, Feb. 14. Neillsville is at Granton on Feb. 14.
