MOSINEE – The top-seeded Mosinee volleyball team survived a hard-fought five-set match, defeated No. 4 seed Waupaca 3-2 on Saturday night in a WIAA Division 2 regional final at Mosinee High School.


Mosinee will host No. 2 seed Winneconne in a Division 2 sectional semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday. The winner plays in a sectional final at Luxemburg-Casco on Saturday, Oct. 30.


The Indians won 25-20, 25-27, 23-25, 25-18, 17-15, improving to 32-3 this season. Waupaca ends its season at 27-6.


Jenna Placek had 15 kills and five blocks, Abbi Martin had 10 kills and eight blocks, Jessica Maurer had 10 kills, 16 digs and four service aces, and Dannica Shupe also had 10 kills for Mosinee.


Alexis Jonas had 48 assists, Jessica Brown added 11 digs, and Claire Selenske had 15 digs and eight kills as well for the Indians.
