MOSINEE BOYS SOCCER BLANKS MEDFORD

MEDFORD – The Mosinee defense clamped down on Medford to push the Indians to a 3-0 win in a Great Northern Conference boys soccer game Thursday at Medford High School.

Toren Holtz had a pair of goals for Mosinee, which is now 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the GNC.

Holtz scored in the 17th minute and added another on a header off a corner kick in the 47th minute, but it was the defense that stood out for Mosinee.

“Cole Kowalski consistently read and cleared the ball, Keaton Wieloch stood tall in goal on the shots he did face, and Ethan Tazelaar and Colton Blank shut down the wings,” Mosinee coach Joseph Carlson said. “Perhaps the standout player on this evening was Josh Ivey. Josh snuffed out the Raider attack countless times and never seemed to run out of energy to his task.”

Mosinee finished with 10 corner kicks, compared to just two for Medford.

Mosinee will host Eau Claire North for a nonconference game Saturday.
