MERRILL – The Marshfield baseball team swept a doubleheader from Merrill, winning 5-2 and 11-4 on Thursday at the MARC.

The Tigers improve to 11-6 overall and 6-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while Merrill falls to 8-8 and 3-7 in the WVC.

Trey Montalvo went a combined 5-for-7 with a home run in the opening game, and two runs scored in both games. He also didn’t allow a run in 2 1/3 innings pitched, earning the save in both contests for the Tigers.

Nick Urban was the winning pitcher in Game 1, striking out 10. Peter Earll added a double and two RBIs for the Tigers.

In Game 2, Marshfield scored three times in both the second and third innings, and put the finishing touches on the sweep with a four-run sixth.

Simon Slade earned the win, giving up four runs in five innings with three strikeouts.

Logan Homolka and Parker Weik each had two RBIs.

Marshfield plays a nonconference game at Eau Claire North on Friday and will finish its Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule Tuesday with a doubleheader at home against Wausau West.
