MITCHELL NAMED TOP REDSHIRT FRESHMAN BY BUFFALO WRESTLING

SPORTSDESK - University at Buffalo Wrestling named Marshfield native, Sam Mitchell, as one of two redshirt freshman award recipients for the 2019-20 season. During the season, Mitchell accumulated a 27-16 record that included three pins. Mitchell finished the season ranked 16th in the country out of all redshirt freshman, wrestling at 197 pounds.

"I believe my first year at UB was a great success. It's given me a great deal of insight on what's needed to compete at that level", said Mitchell. "Until the current crisis is over, I'm concentrating on my studies and getting physically stronger. When I can get back on the mat, I'll work on adjustments needed heading into the 2021 season."

Mitchell capped off his wrestling career at Marshfield Senior High School (WI) as Division One State Champion at 195 pounds with a 5-4 decision over Stoughton's Brooks Empey. Mitchell's senior year also included an overall record of 46-1.
