MERRILL UPSETS MOSINEE IN DIVISION 2 BOYS BASKETBALL REGIONAL SEMIFINAL

MOSINEE – The magical season for the Mosinee boys basketball team came to a screeching halt Friday night as the Indians dropped a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal to Merrill 64-60 at Mosinee High School.
The No. 7 seed Merrill (12-14) moves into a regional final at No. 6 seed Rhinelander (12-13) on Saturday at 7 p.m. Rhinelander also earned an upset road win on Friday, topping No. 3 Shawano 61-56 in overtime.
The game was tied at 29-29 at halftime before Merrill was able to eke out the win with a four-point advantage in the second half.
Davin Stoffel and Keagan Jirschele each had 17 points, and Drake Grod added 11 in the loss for the No. 2 seed Mosinee, which finishes the season with a 22-3 record.
