LOYAL/GREENWOOD SOFTBALL SECURES FIFTH WIN OF SEASON

COLBY - The Loyal/Greenwood Greenhounds softball team improved its season record to 5-1 overall with a 9-7 win over Colby/Abbotsford on Monday night.
The Greenhounds used a five-run sixth inning and then survived a Hornets' comeback attempt in the seventh to leave victorious.
Mesa Rasmussen started the big Loyal/Greenwood sixth inning with a triple that scored Anna Lindner. The hit parade continued with RBI plate appearances hits from Tysen Lindner, G Petkovsek, T Mitte, and Aspen Hagen.
Colby/Abby bounced back in the bottom of the sixth with two runs, both coming on a Greenhounds error with two outs that scored Kylie Orth and Halie Van Luven.
After a three up, three down top of the seventh, the Colby/Abby comeback attempt continued in the bottom of the inning. Alea Graff tripled to left field, scoring Kya Viegut, cutting the deficit to three, 9-6. Graff scored two batters later on a Greenhounds' error. The Hornets brought the tying run to the plate twice, but weren't able to get the ball out of the infield, suffering two ground ball outs to end the game.
Emma Schlough pitched all seven innings for Loyal/Greenwood, striking out eight and picking up the win. Tatum Bargender was the losing pitcher for C/A, striking out five.
Next up for Loyal/Greeenwood (5-1) is Tuesday doubleheader at Owen-Withee with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. Colby/Abbotsford (2-2) hosts Neillsville in a doubleheader Tuesday, also beginning at 4 p.m.
