LOYAL/GREENWOOD FOOTBALL CO-OP SELECTS NICKNAME

SPORTSDESK - The Loyal and Greenwood school boards both approved a football team nickname for its football co-op on Thursday night. The Loyal-Greenwood Wolves will hit the field for the first time when then 2024 season kicks off.

"The Wolves nickname captures the canine history in Loyal and the native heritage here in Greenwood", said Greenwood Athletic Director, Jenni Mayenschein. An upcoming logo reveal will feature a wolf carrying the colors; silver, black, maroon, and red. The color choices include current pantones from each school.

The team will participate in 11-player football (Greenwood currently 8-player) and belong to the Central Wisconsin Large football conference. The conference currently features D6 state champion Stratford along with perennial powers Amherst and Colby.

Current varsity softball and cross country co-op teams will adopt the new nickname immediately to include the start of next month's softball season.
