Zaleski Sports

IOLA – Jaelyn Sivertson scored 16 points to help lead the Iola-Scandinavia girls basketball team to a slim 40-39 nonconference win over Oshkosh Lourdes on Tuesday night at Iola-Scandinavia High School.

The Thunderbirds led 22-16 at halftime and were able to overcome a late rally to defeat Lourdes by one and improve to 14-8 this season.

Lourdes led by five with one minute to go before the Thunderbirds turned up their defense, forcing a pair of steals and baskets.

Sivertson made two free throws with 25 seconds left to give I-S the one-point lead and it was able to get a stop in the final seconds to preserve the victory.

Madeline Much added 12 points for Iola-Scandinavia in the victory.

Iola-Scandinavia wraps up its regular season on Thursday with a home Central Wisconsin Conference East Division game against Bonduel.
