HORTONVILLE RALLIES TO DEFEAT COLBY FOOTBALL

HORTONVILLE – The Colby football team, ranked No. 2 in this week’s Wissports.net Division 6 state coaches poll, hung with Division 1 Hortonville for the entire game Friday night at Akin Field at Hortonville High School, but couldn’t score in the fourth quarter and dropped a 19-13 decision.
Colby (6-1) led 6-2 after a 35-yard touchdown run by Caden Healy early in the second quarter.
Hortonville regained the lead with a touchdown just before halftime, but the Hornets responded with a 5-yard TD run by Healy midway through the third quarter and led 13-9.
Hortonville (3-4) held the rest of the way and added a touchdown late in the third quarter to pull ahead and a field goal in the fourth to pad its lead.
Colby racked up 308 rushing yards, 148 from quarterback Brent Jeske and 104 from Healy.
Sam Dodd finished with 219 passing yards and a touchdown to Winston Peters, and also had a 2-yard TD run for the Polar Bears.
Colby hosts Ladysmith for a nonconference game Friday, Oct. 8, before finishing its regular-season and Marawood Conference schedule at home against Auburndale on Oct. 15.
