GREENWOOD/LOYAL SOFTBALL STARTS SEASON 1-3

The Greenwood/Loyal softball team opened its season with three losses in a row before pulling out a win in the second game of a doubleheader.


Greenwood/Loyal fell 14-1 to Fall Creek on April 27, 12-3 to Thorp on April 30, and the first game of a doubleheader at Athens 18-4 on Saturday, before rebounding to win Game 2, 19-10.


Zaida Brock had a double and scored Greenwood’s only run in the loss to Fall Creek.


Brock also had a double and an RBI against Thorp. McKenna Schley and Gracie North also had RBIs in the loss.


Schley had two of G/L’s seven hits in the Game 1 loss to Athens, and two hits and two RBIs in the victory in the second game.


Greenwood trailed 10-9 after giving up seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, but rallied with a seven-run sixth and tacked on three more in the seventh.


Aspen Hagen and Kaitlyn Lindner each had three hits, with Lindner and Kayla Bremmer each driving in three runs, Bremmer’s on a home run.


Greenwood/Loyal opens its Cloverbelt Conference East Division schedule Tuesday at Spencer.
