EDGAR SURVIVES WILD FINISH TO SLIP PAST WILD ROSE IN D-5 GIRLS BASKETBALL REGIONAL FINAL

WILD ROSE – The Edgar girls basketball team is off to sectionals after a hard-fought 53-52 win over Wild Rose in a WIAA Division 5 regional final Saturday night at Wild Rose High School.
The game was tight throughout and Wild Rose took a one-point lead into the final minutes.
Leah Davis made 3-pointer from the right corner with 1:23 left to give Edgar a 53-51 lead.
Wild Rose ran down the clock and Laney Havlovitz was fouled going to the basket with 4.4 seconds left. She made the first of two free throw attempts, but missed the second and the ball was knocked out of bounds by Edgar, giving Wild Rose one final shot.
Havlovitz took a long inbounds pass and missed a 3-point heave as the buzzer sounded, sending Edgar to the sectional.
Edgar (20-7) will face Marawood Conference South Division rival Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (24-3) in a Division 5 sectional semifinal Thursday at Wausau West High School.
Havlovitz finished with 27 points for Wild Rose, which ends the season with a 22-2 record.
Makenna Wirkus scored 18 points, Davis added 14, and Reagan Borchardt chipped in 12 for Edgar.
