DIEDRICH SCORES FIVE TOUCHDOWNS AS ATHENS FOOTBALL WHIPS ALMOND-BANCROFT

ATHENS – Athens quarterback Cooper Diedrich ran for 202 yards on just six carries, and he scored on five of them as the Bluejays pounded Almond-Bancroft 64-8 in 8-man football action Friday at Athens High School.
Diedrich returned an interception 32 yards for a score in the opening minute of the game, and added touchdown runs of 40, 22, and 50 yards in the first half as the Bluejays (3-0) opened up a 48-0 lead by halftime.
Caleb Borchardt had an 11-yard touchdown run and Kyler Ellenbecker scored from 36 yards out as well for Athens in the first half. The Bluejays converted two-point plays following each of their six touchdowns.
Diedrich finished off his incredible night with touchdown runs of 35 and 44 yards in the second half.
Ellenbecker added 77 yards and Borchardt 65 in the victory as Athens pounded out 359 yards on the ground.
Almond-Bancroft (0-3) hosts Lake Holcombe and Athens will be at home against Chequamegon next Friday, Sept. 17.
