VOLLEYBALL
Wapahani and Cowan claimed sectional championships last week.
The Raiders won their first sectional in three years by dispatching host Lapel 25-6, 25-16, 25-12. Class 2A No. 2 Wapahani (28-5) will play Seger in the Elwood Regional on Saturday.
Class A No. 2 Cowan beat Daleville 25-12, 25-8, 25-12 to win its own sectional. Gracie Conway led the Blackhawks with 13 kills. Cowan (26-4) will take on Covington at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Clinton Central Regional.
In the most anticipated sectional matchup last week, Class 4A No. 2 Yorktown fell to No. 1 New Castle 25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 25-22 in semifinal play at New Castle. The Tigers won the 4A state championship a year ago.
BOYS TENNIS
The doubles team of Mason Knight and Cadence Brown of Delta lost in individual regional action last week, 6-2, 6-1 to McCutcheon.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Wapahani advanced to the New Haven Semistate by finishing fifth in the Delta Regional on Oct. 19. Top five runners for the Raiders were Griffen Miller, Brandon Ellis, Andrew Schrock, Colton Boggs and Jon Schrock.
Matthew Mitsch of Yorktown finished second and Isaiah Strong of Central placed eighth to advance to the semistate as individuals.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Yorktown placed fourth and Delta was fifth at the Delta Regional to advance to the New Haven Semistate.
Runners for Yorktown were Amberleigh Sorensen, Elizabeth Reece, Sara Barnhizer, Natalie Moulton and Ali Smith. Runners for Delta were Makayla Robles, Ashley Brelage, Camryn Eldridge, Alyssa Thorpe and Olivia Bohanon.
Lauren Smith of Cowan and Lexi Wulff of Wapahani advanced to the semistate as individuals.
