VOLLEYBALL
Yorktown won the Delaware County volleyball tournament championship for the sixth straight season Oct. 5 by beating Wapahani in straight sets.
The Tigers won 25-10, 25-15, 25-17 to beat the Raiders for the second time this season. The two losses are the only ones suffered by Wapahani.
Courtney Watkins led Yorktown with 21 kills and Kate Vinson had 39 assists. For Wapahani, Chloe Cook had 8 kills.
Wapahani won the Mid-Eastern Conference championship on Wednesday by beating Cowan in a battle of undefeated teams. The Raiders prevailed in a fiercely close battle 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 19-17.
Martina Demarchi led Wapahani in kills with 17, Gracie Conway had 16, and Jascey Harrington 15.
BOYS TENNIS
Delta won its 27th sectional championship by stopping Burris 4-1 in the finals on Saturday.
The victories came from Brandon Jackson at No. 2 singles, Daniel Vencel at No. 3 singles, Mason Knight and Cade Brown at No. 1 doubles and the No. 2 doubles team of Jaigan Glaze and Walker Boyle.
Burris freshman Charlie Behrman advanced to regional action as a singles player, but lost his match Wednesday.
Delta beat Winchester 5-0 Tuesday in the semifinals of the Marion Regional, but fell 3-2 to the host Giants in the championship match on Wednesday.
Brown and Knight advanced in doubles and will play in the individual regional on Thursday.
