COLUMBUS CATHOLIC SOCCER EARNS ROAD WIN AT AMHERST, NOW 5-0 IN CWC

AMHERST – Amherst scored in the opening minute before Columbus Catholic scored six unanswered goals and won 6-1 in a Central Wisconsin Conference soccer game Thursday at Amherst High School.


Caleb Pinkalla scored 1:02 into the game for the Falcons, but they could not get another past Columbus Catholic goalkeeper Lucas Kreklau, who finished with six saves.


Alex Edwards scored at the 12:54 mark, Cy Becker added a goal eight minutes later, and Edwards scored again in the 32nd minute to push Columbus Catholic to a 3-1 lead by halftime.


Grant Olson scored twice and Edwards added another goal in the second half to complete a hat trick for Columbus Catholic (7-1-1, 5-0 CWC).


Columbus Catholic hosts Nekoosa at 1 p.m. Saturday for a nonconference match at Griese Park before playing a home in a conference contest Monday against Northland Lutheran at 5 p.m. Amherst will host Gresham/Bowler at 5 p.m. Monday. All three games will be live at zaleskisports.com.
