COLUMBUS CATHOLIC'S SOCCER PLAYER ALEX EDWARDS WINS SEPTEMBER ATHLETE OF THE MONTH VOTING

Marshfield Columbus Catholic freshman soccer player Alex Edwards has been voted as the MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports September High School Athlete of the Month.

The High School Athlete of the Month Award main sponsor for the 2020-21 school year is Awards ‘n’ More of Wisconsin Rapids. The monthly award will continue through June 2021, and the winner of the MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports High School Athlete of the Year will be announced in July.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Assumption, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pacelli, Pittsville, Spencer, Stevens Point, Stratford, Thorp and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.

Edwards earned 1,699 of the nearly 4,100 votes cast during voting from Oct. 1-7 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.

Other nominees for the September award were: Auburndale cross country runner Carl Lundgren, Marshfield volleyball player Casey Frankland, and Stratford football player Colten Schillinger.

Edwards, a forward for the Dons, helped Columbus Catholic get off to a 5-2 start in September as he emerged as the leading goal-scorer. Edwards had a hat trick and an assist in a 4-3 win over Mosinee on Sept. 19, had two goals and an assist in a 5-0 win over Stevens Point Pacelli on Sept. 22, and scored the team’s only goal in a 2-1 loss to Amherst on Sept. 24. He finished off a strong opening month with an assist in a win over Northland Lutheran on Sept. 28, and two goals and an assist in a 5-1 victory over Wausau Newman on Sept. 29.
