MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team kept its perfect record in tact with a come-from-behind 8-4 win over Greenwood in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.

Columbus Catholic is now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Cloverbelt East, while Greenwood falls to 1-2 and 1-1 in conference play.

Greenwood led 3-1 after scoring twice in the top of the third inning on a two-RBI single by Gage Ludovic.

Columbus Catholic responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Cole Timmler knocked in a run with a double, Brock Bennington followed with another double to knock in two runs and give the Dons the lead, and Bennington scored on a groundout by Cy Becker to push the lead to 5-3.

Mason Learman had an RBI single in the fourth to bring Greenwood to within a run, but the Dons were able to push the lead to four with an RBI single by Blake Jakobi and a passed ball that scored Alex Edwards in the fifth, and a bases-loaded walk in the sixth.

Emmitt Konieczny earned the win for Columbus, striking out seven and walking five in five innings. Jakobi grabbed the save with two shutout innings of relief.

Bennington, Konieczny and Timmler all had three hits in the victory.

Learman was 2-for-4 to lead the Greenwood offense.

Both teams return to action Thursday with Cloverbelt East contests. Columbus Catholic will be at Spencer and Greenwood will host Neillsville. Both games begin at 5 p.m.
