COLBY - Colby High School girls basketball coach, Randy Rau, has resigned as head basketball coach. Rau had coached the Hornets for the past 15 years and led the team to its first-ever state tournament appearance in 2019. "I've had a 15-year run at Colby and it's been great. Business needs now have taken priority, and I need to spend time with that," said Rau.
Rau also helped to guide a number of his basketball players to the collegiate level (Sarah Gamillo, 2013, UW-Stevens Point; Ashley Streveler 2019, Saint Mary's; Hailey Voelker 2020, Lake Superior State). "It's great to watch kids grow and help to start getting them noticed. I think of them when they began as freshmen and help them grow on the court and at school. It's nice to know that you've been able to help them on the basketball court and personally away from the game," remarked Rau.
Aside from the state run in 2019, Rau had other fond memories of his Colby coaching career. "We had back-to-back conference championships and in 2013 we had our first regional championship in school history. The first four years coaching my daughter was my start in coaching and really convinced me from there that a coaching career was for me."
