AUBURNDALE WINS THREE TITLES, SPASH ONE AT WAUSAU EAST WRESTLING INVITATIONAL
WAUSAU – The Auburndale wrestling team won three individual titles and Stevens Point earned one at the 16-team Wausau East Lumberjack Invitational on Saturday.
Derek Godard (25-6) pinned Mason Dewing of Crandon in 4:15 to take the 106-pound title, Colton Weiler (31-5) won the 113-pound championship with a 9-1 major decision over Garrett Marks of Winneconne, and Sloan Welch (32-4) earned the 195-pound title with a 5-3 overtime win over Gavin Ostermann of Rhinelander for Auburndale.
Noah Altmann finished second at 132 pounds and Brice Thiel was fourth at 195 as well for the Eagles.
Winneconne won the team title with 456 pounds, with Appleton North second with 411.5 points. Stevens Point was eighth with 258 points, Auburndale was ninth with 242.5, and Athens finished 14th with 66.
T.J. Schierl won the 152-pound title for Stevens Point as he improves to 16-2 this season.
Kale Roth was second at 145, Warren Soik took third at 126, and Logan Seavers finished fifth at 120 as well for Stevens Point.
Athens’ top finish came from Brooks Kraus (24-6), who was third at 132 pounds.
Auburndale and Athens will compete at the Marawood Conference Meet next Saturday, Jan. 29, at Edgar. Stevens Point has a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet at Marshfield on Thursday.
