WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Add a regional championship to the accomplishments of the 2022 Wisconsin Rapids Assumption girls soccer team.

The Royals scored four times in the first 10 minutes and cruised to an 11-1 win over River Valley in a WIAA Division 4 girls soccer regional final Saturday at Washington Field.

Assumption (20-0) moves on to a sectional semifinal against Lodi (10-6-3) at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. Washburn/Bayfield and Northland Pines will meet in the other Sectional 1 semifinal with the winners meeting in the sectional final, with a berth in the state tournament on the line, on Saturday, June 11, at Washington Field.

Kayla Kerkman scored 51 seconds into the game, Kendall Duellman scored at the 4:05 mark, and Sarah Shaw had two more goals in the first 9:47 to give the Royals a quick 4-0 lead.

Aislinn Dolan scored twice and Addi Vollert added another goal before halftime for the Royals, with Duellman scoring again and Shaw pushing in three more scores in the second half.

Morgan Reichl saved eight of nine shots sent her way in goal for Assumption.

“The defensive back four, including Clara Kubis, Jerlin Ferriera, Olive Wilson and Kara Drewiske, did an awesome job of stopping offensive attacks by River Valley,” Assumption coach Jim Wendels said. “Our offense was stellar and midfield play controlled the match.

“This was a great win and we look to keep it going in the playoffs.”
