ASSUMPTION GIRLS CLAIM SHARE OF MARAWOOD SOUTH TITLE
SPORTSDESK - Via a Saturday 55-33 home win over Edgar, the Assumption girls basketball team has clinched at least a share of the Marawood South conference championship. An outright conference title will be gained with a win at home Monday vs Stratford. Should Stratford defeat Assumption, the championship would be shared between the two teams.
A conference ruling made in January states that a team must play a minimum of 10 conference games to be considered for a championship. The first tie breaker after the 10 game threshold is met are conference losses. The second tiebreaker is win percentage of greater than seven percent. With Assumption sitting at 8-2 in Marawood South conference play as of today and Stratford at 9-3, both teams have met the minimum games played. A Monday Stratford win would give them a 10-3 conference record and a win percentage of .769, while Assumption's 8-3 mark would give a win percentage of .727. The difference just under seven percent (5.2%), thus leaving both teams tied atop the conference.
The game will be broadcast live at Zaleski Sports as part of a girls/boys doubleheader vs Stratford in Wisconsin Rapids with game start scheduled for 5:45pm.
