Zaleski Sports

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Assumption girls basketball team fought off a pesky Edgar team to stay in a tie for first place in the Marawood Conference South Division, winning 37-33 in a low-scoring affair Thursday at Assumption High School.

Edgar led 19-15 at halftime before Assumption stormed back and held off a late run to earn the four-point win.

Ainara Sainz de Rozas scored 14 points for the Royals, who are now 15-3 overall and 10-2 in the Marawood South. Assumption remains tied for first in the conference standings with Auburndale, a winner over Wausau Newman Catholic on Thursday.

Reagan Borchardt scored 15 points for Edgar (12-6, 6-5 Marawood South).

Assumption hosts Stevens Point Pacelli for a nonconference game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.

Edgar will be off for a week before hosting Phillips for a Marawood crossover game on Feb. 3.
