AMHERST SOFTBALL WINS REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP




OCONTO - The Amherst softball team beat Octonto 5-1 to bring home a WIAA Division 3 regional championship.


Sydney Jastromski led the way for the Falcons with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Haley Peskie had a pair of hits and Tatum Maves added a RBI. Peskie picked up the win while pitching all seven inning, striking out two and allowing one run.


In the first inning Jastromski got the Falcons scoring started with a two-run home run to centerfield that scored Peskie. The third inning saw Maves take a 1-1 pitch to centerfield and knock in Jastromski. With Payton Jastromski batting next, it was A Breed coming home on a passed ball that put Amherst up 4-0.


Amherst got its final run of the game in the fifth inning as Jastromski rolled out to the pitcher and on the play Peskie scored for the second time in the game.


Oconto attempted a two-out comeback in the seventh inning before Peskie induced an infield pop out to retire the final batter of the game.


Amherst now plays in a sectional semifinal at Peshtigo on Tuesday.
