ABBOTSFORD – The Abbotsford/Colby baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader with Tomahawk on Saturday at Red Arrow Park.
Tomahawk scored six times in the top of the 11th inning and held off a late Falcons’ rally to win the opening game 19-17, but Abbotsford/Colby turned the tables in Game 2, dominating in a 12-1 win.
Game 1 was a wild one, with Tomahawk finishing with 17 hits and Abby/Colby with 22. Both teams scored multiple runs in six different at-bats.
Tomahawk scored twice in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. Both teams scored once in the eighth and twice in the ninth before erupting in the 11th. The Hatchets scored six times, with Abby/Colby responding with four to come up jst short.
Garret Nelson had four hits and two RBIs, and Isaiah Scheffler and Payton Bunce each had three hits for Tomahawk.
Hunter Woyk went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, Cade Faber had three hits, including a home run, and six RBIs, and Ross Elmhorst, Brandon Diedrich and Blake Bargender each had three hits for the Falcons.
In Game 2, Elmhorst went 3-for-3 with a double, a homer, and three runs scored, and Soyk, Diedrich and Nick Olvera each had two hits, with Diedrich driving in four with a pair of doubles for Abbotsford/Colby (15-7).
Abby/Colby will wrap up its regular-season schedule with a nonconference home game against Medford on Monday and its Marawood Conference North Division finale Tuesday at home against Prentice.
Abbotsford/Colby will play a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal at Mosinee on Thursday.
