Our season long basketball rankings help to tell you which high school teams are hot and worth your time (and ticket price). The team rankings are a mix of opinion, fact, stats, and entertainment value. The confidential pollsters are instructed to choose the top teams in central/northern Wisconsin based on how they personally view a particular team and how good is the team compared to who they play every night.

We think you will enjoy this weekly series of who's who in central/northern Wisconsin basketball.

A closer look at the girls side:

Assumption Royals (7-0): Sarah Shaw averages 7.2 steals per game, many teams carry that same average. Shaw also leads the team in scoring with 13.7 points per game and rebounds with 3.9. Perhaps time to rename Assumption to the Shaw's?

When the Royals give Shaw a break it's Anna Schooley (12.1ppg) and Kendall Duellman (7.6ppg) picking up the slack.

After turning back Marawood South rival Edgar last week, 46-34, Auburndale comes to town on Thursday night. See the game in-person in Wisconsin Rapids or live on Zaleski Sports.

Marshfield (7-0): Coach Taylor Varsho has her girls out to an impressive six wins and no losses on the season so far. Senior Danielle Minsaas leads the way with 18 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, and 4.2 assists per game. Ashley Grancorvitz, Ayana Bousum, and Zaida Kolbeck are fun to watch work with Minsaas and company.

Marshfield is averaging over 64 points per game and has a suffocating defense to compliment. DC Everest comes to town on Friday averaging just 41 points per game as the Tigers look to push its conference record to 3-0.

Athens (7-0): What else can you ask of coach Kyncaide Keefe's Bluejays but to win every game on the schedule? Not only have they done that, they've done it convincingly while carrying a win margin average of 41 points. That's right, Athens has an average game score of 66-25. Whoa!

Some thought that last week's game against Stratford would provide the first true test of the season for Athens. Not only did Athens take care of Stratford 58-36, the Bluejays defense didn't allow a second half Stratford field goal until less than nine minutes remaining in the game. The Tigers put up a paltry 13 second half points, even with the Bluejays letting off the gas late in the game. Test passed.

Sophia Coker, Addison Lavicka, and Jazelle Hartwig combine for 44 offensively. If you like high scoring basketball, watch the Bluejays take on Phillips at home on Friday.
