WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids girls basketball couldn’t overcome a slow start and dropped a 66-55 decision to Verona in a nonconference game Monday night at Lincoln High School.


Verona led 24-14 at halftime and the Raiders couldn’t make up any ground in a high-scoring second half that the Wildcats won 42-41.


Chelsea King scored 18 points, Megan Clary added 13 points, and Ella Bruns had eight rebounds and 10 rebounds for Wisconsin Rapids, which drops to 10-7.


Wisconsin Rapids plays a nonconference road game at La Crosse Central on Tuesday.
