SCHOFIELD – The Stevens Point baseball team clinched the outright Wisconsin Valley Conference championship with a win in Game 2 of a doubleheader at D.C. Everest on Thursday.
Everest won the first game 3-2 in nine innings before Stevens Point came back with a 5-4 win in Game 2, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to finish off the Valley title.
Jake Sankey had three hits, and Tommy Drohner and Logan Schulfer each had two hits in Game 1 for SPASH.
D.C. Everest pushed across the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
In the second game, Cade Konzcal was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to walk it off for the Panthers, who are now 13-3 overall and finish 10-2 in the Valley.
Everest moves to 12-8 and 6-4 in conference play, with a doubleheader at Wausau East left on the schedule on Tuesday.
“It was nice to see us find a way to win the second game after a tough loss in the first game,” Stevens Point coach Kraig Terpstra said. “I am proud of the players for accomplishing one of their goals in winning the Wisconsin Valley Conference title.”
Stevens Point will finish its regular season with a nonconference doubleheader at Holmen on Saturday.
