SPASH BASEBALL TOPS WISCONSIN RAPIDS TWICE IN WVC DOUBLEHEADER

PLOVER – The Stevens Point baseball team swept a doubleheader from Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday at Memorial Park to maintain its lead on top of the Wisconsin Valley Conference standings.
Stevens Point won 9-6 and 7-1 to improve to 8-2 overall and 7-1 in the WVC. Wisconsin Rapids is now 4-9 and 2-6 in the conference.
Logan Schulfer earned the win in Game 1, striking out eighth and allowing one run in six innings. He also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate.
Brennan Huber hit a grand slam in the seventh inning for Wisconsin Rapids.
In Game 2, Kaden Thauer allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win, striking out five.
Stevens Point scored all seven of its runs in the top of the fourth.
The Panthers’ doubleheader against Medford on Friday was rained out and they won’t return to action until Thursday, May 27, when they host Wausau East for a WVC twinbill at Bukolt Park beginning at 4 p.m.
