MOSINEE VOLLEYBALL TAKES THIRD PLACE AT UW-STOUT

MENOMONIE – The Mosinee volleyball team finished in third place at the two-day Menomonie Sprawl on Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
In the top-eight Gold Bracket, Mosinee defeated St. Croix Central in the quarterfinals 25-18, 25-22, before losing to Chippewa Falls 27-29, 25-20, 15-7.
The Indians came back to win the third-place match over St. Croix Falls 25-23, 25-18, in a rematch of last year’s sectional final won by St. Croix Falls.
Abbi Martin had a team-high 23 kills and nine kills, Jenna Placek added 15 kills and 14 blocks, and Alexis Jonas had 51 assists and 16 digs for Mosinee in its three matches on Saturday.
Jessica Maurer added 12 kills and 16 digs, Claire Selenske had 15 digs, and Jessica Brown had 15 digs and four aces for the Indians, who finished 9-1 overall in the two-day tournament.
Mosinee opens Great Northern Conference play Thursday at Medford.
