MOSINEE BOYS BASKETBALL WINS AT RHINELANDER, IMPROVES TO 9-0 IN GNC

RHINELANDER – The Mosinee boys basketball team overcame an early five-point deficit and held off a second-half run to defeat Rhinelander 55-44 in a Great Northern Conference game Friday night at Rhinelander High School.
Rhinelander got off to a quick 6-1 lead before Mosinee got its offense going and outscored the Hodags by 10 the rest of the half to take a 27-22 lead into intermission.
A big dunk by Davin Stoffel, who led Mosinee with 18 points, helped the Indians extended their lead before Rhinelander went on a 19-10 run to close to within 45-42 with 5:48 remaining.
Mosinee was able to finish off the win from the free throw line, outscoring Rhinelander (8-9, 4-3 GNC) 10-2 the rest of the way to keep its lead intact on top of the GNC standings.
Keagen Jirschle added 14 points in the win for the Indians.
Jacksen Smith led Rhinelander with 15 points.
Mosinee is now 18-1 and remains perfect at 9-0 in the GNC with a game at home Tuesday against second-place Northland Pines (6-1 GNC) coming up. The game begins at 7:15 p.m. and will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
