MARSHFIELD GIRLS WIN, BOYS FALL BY TWO AT WISCONSIN RAPIDS IN BASKETBALL DOUBLEHEADER

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield girls basketball team did just enough to earn another big Wisconsin Valley Conference win.
The Tigers made 17 of 27 free throws and hauled down 34 rebounds in a 61-56 victory over Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday at Lincoln High School.
Marshfield led 33-26 at halftime and held off the Raiders at the end.
Kaydee Johnson had 16 points and nine rebounds, Maddie Michaelis added 14 points, six rebounds and five steals, and Quincy Lang chipped in seven points and six rebounds off the bench for the Tigers.
Marshfield takes over sole possession of first place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, improving to 7-1 and 9-5 overall. The Tigers are one-half game ahead of Stevens Point, which played a nonconference game Tuesday.
Wisconsin Rapids falls to 7-10 and 3-5 in the Valley. Rapids’ statistics were not provided.
Marshfield hosts Merrill on Friday, while Rapids travels to Stevens Point. The Marshfield game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.

Marshfield couldn’t overcome a cold shooting night against Wisconsin Rapids.
The Tigers shot just 37 percent from the field and were 7-for-32 from 3-point range in a 56-54 loss to Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday night at Lincoln High School.
With the loss, Marshfield falls into a three-way tie for first place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference at 5-2, along with Merrill and D.C. Everest. Stevens Point sits just one-half game behind at 4-2. Wisconsin Rapids improves to 6-9 and 3-4 in the WVC.
Marshfield trailed 23-18 at halftime, overcame that to take the lead with about seven minutes left, before Rapids regained the advantage and held on at the end.
Anthony Posteluk and Joey Goettl each scored 13 points, and Bennett Koehn chipped in 10 for the Tigers.
Grant Flory poured in 25 points on 9-for-13 shooting to lead the Raiders, who were a more efficient 18-for-38 shooting and held a 17-9 advantage at the free throw line.
Marshfield will play at Merrill on Thursday and Wisconsin Rapids is at Stevens Point on Friday. The Marshfield game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
