EDGAR – Edgar methodically wore down Iola-Scandinavia with a punishing running game and tough defense as the Wildcats posted a 36-0 win in a nonconference football game Friday at Edgar High School.
Jordan Bunkelman and Ayden Weisenberger each had touchdown runs in the first half as Edgar (2-1 overall) built a 16-0 lead at halftime.
Karter Butt, who finished with 233 rushing yards, and touchdown runs of 7 and 46 in the second quarter, and Weisenberger, who chipped in 79 yards on the ground, added another score in the fourth for the Wildcats.
The Edgar defense allowed just 146 total yards and only 50 on the ground on 27 carries in pitching the shutout.
Parker Prahl threw for 96 yards for the Thunderbirds (1-2).
Both teams open play in their respective conferences next Friday, Sept. 10. Iola-Scandinavia will be at home against Loyal in a Central Wisconsin Conference Small Division game, while Edgar will be at Colby in a Marawood Conference battle between to state-ranked teams. Entering this week, Edgar was ranked No. 1 in Division 7 and Colby was No. 2 in Division 6.
