BANGOR USES LATE RUN TO GET PAST HURLEY IN D5 STATE SEMI-FINAL.
The Bangor Cardinals used a late rally, key defensive stops and clutch free throws to take down the Hurley North Stars on Friday afternoon to advance to the division 5 state championship game.
Bangor finished with three players in double figures led by Tanner Jones who contributed 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Other double figure scorers were Will Reader (14 points, four rebounds, and five assists) and Dustin McDonald (12 points).
The Cardinals led 35-29 at halftime but the North Stars came back and took the lead 41-38 with 13:17 left in the game. The scoring went back and forth the next eight minutes. Hurley held a 53-30 lead with 5:39 left in the game, but Bangor went on a 12-1 run to close out the state semi-final and win 62-54.
Hurley was led by Eli Talsma who finished with 18 points and four rebounds. Other double-digit scorers were Dominic Croci who ended the game with 14 points and Braxton Sbraggia led the way on the boards with nine rebounds to go along with his 11 points.
Bangor will meet Randolph in the division 5 state championship game on Saturday morning with the tip-off scheduled for 11:05.
