MAUSTON – The Wisconsin Rapids Assumption girls soccer team dominated from start to finish in its season opener against Mauston on Tuesday night, outshooting the Eagles 31-1 on its way to a 9-0 shutout victory in the Mid-Western Wisconsin Conference opener for both teams.

Sarah Shaw had a hat trick, Kendall Duellman had two goals and three assists, and Mally Steinle, Olive Wilson, Kayla Kerkman and Addi Vollert each added goals for Assumption.

“This was a great start to our season with a nice road win,” Assumption coach Jim Wendels said. “The first half was a bit unorganized and chaotic, but coming out of the half we cleaned it up and played brilliant.”

Morgan Reichl earned the shutout win in goal for the Royals, saving the only shot she saw in the box.

Bre Sullivan added an assist for Assumption, which was also playing its season opener.

Assumption will play at Adams-Friendship in another MWWC game Friday at 4:30 p.m.
