ASSUMPTION GIRLS SOCCER ERUPTS FOR SIX SECOND-HALF GOALS, ROLLS PAST REGIS/MCDONELL

EAU CLAIRE – Following a slow start, the Assumption girls soccer team exploded for a six-goal second half and shut out Eau Claire Regis/Chippewa Falls McDonell 7-0 in a Mid-Western Wisconsin Conference matchup Thursday at Regis High School.
Addi Vollert scored in the 2nd minute to give the Royals an early 1-0 lead, but that was all they could muster in the first half as Regis/McDonell played them tough.
After some adjustments, Assumption got its potent offense rolling, scoring six times in the opening 23 minutes of the second half to put the game away and keep its perfect record intact as it improves to 14-0 overall and 9-0 in the MWWC.
“This was an impressive win against a quality conference team,” Assumption coach Jim Wendels said. “We talked at half about simplifying our game and keeping it simple, hitting the open passes, not over-handling the ball, early crosses and putting numbers up around the ball. The girls responded well and we cracked it open in the second half.”
Kendall Duellman and Clara Kubis each scored twice, and Vollert and Jungwirth added goals to extend the Royals’ advantage.
Morgan Reichl made 12 saves in goal for the Royals.
Assumption hosts Wautoma for a conference game Friday at 7 p.m. at Washington Field. Watch for highlights on the Zaleski Sports social media platforms.
