ASSUMPTION BOYS BASKETBALL PUSHES PAST NEKOOSA AT CRANBERRY CLASSIC

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Assumption boys basketball opened its 2021-22 season with an 81-63 win over Nekoosa a semifinal of the Cranberry Classic on Friday at Assumption High School.

The game was the head coaching debut of Josh Paltz, who was previously an assistant on the girls basketball team at Assumption Catholic.


Wisconsin Rapids Assumption will play Marshfield Columbus Catholic in the championship game of the tournament on Saturday at 8 p.m. The game will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com. Columbus Catholic defeated Port Edwards in the other opening round game Friday. Nekoosa and Port Edwards will play for third place at 6:15 p.m.


The game was tied 33-33 at halftime before Assumption pulled away.


Bryson Galbreath scored 16 of his game-high 27 points in the second half for the Royals. Reed Duellman added 18 points and Frank Matott chipped in 10, eight in the second half, for Assumption.
