EDGAR TRACK QUALIFIES FOR STATE IN 12 EVENTS AT WIAA DIVISION 3 ROSHOLT SECTIONAL
ROSHOLT – A group of boys from Edgar High School will have a week to remember in the coming days.
Konnor Wolf, Drew Guden, Kyle Brewster and Austin Dahlke will be among the members of the Edgar baseball team competing at the WIAA Division 4 sectional tournament on Tuesday at Athens, searching for the program’s first state tournament appearance. On Thursday, the group, along with a number of others, will be taking part in the WIAA state track meet.
Wolf was on two winning relay teams and placed third in two other events to lead the way for Edgar at the WIAA Division 3 Track & Field Sectional on Thursday at Rosholt High School.
Wolf, Guden, Ayden Weisenberger and Brewster won the 800-meter relay in 1:31.38; Dahlke, Wolf, Guden and Brewster took first in the 400 relay in 44.01 seconds; and Guden, Ayden Weisenberger, Kohlbe Weisenberger, and Dahlke won the 1,600 relay in 3:28.59, to move on to state.
The top four finishers in each event at the sectional qualify for WIAA Division 3 State Track & Field Championships on Thursday, June 24, at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Wolf, fresh off a no-hitter in a baseball regional final win on Wednesday, also placed third in the triple jump (42-1¼) and the 110-meter hurdles (15.82), and Dahlke was second in the 200 (22.72) and third in the long jump (20-10½).
The Edgar girls will compete in five events at state, and four of them will involve Morgan Schnelle.
Schnelle finished second in the 100 (12.75) and fourth in the long jump (16-1¾), and was part of two relay teams that also qualified for state.
Rachel Brewster, Ella Morse, Amber Skrzypcak and Schnelle won the 400 relay in 50.63 seconds, and Brewster, Morse, Makenna Guden and Schnelle finished second in the 1,600 relay in 4:08.15.
Brewster also qualified for state in the 300 hurdles after taking fourth in 48.03.
Marathon had four state qualifiers. Brett Gertschen was second in the discus (141-10) and third in the shot put (45-4¾), Griffin Treankler finished fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.12), and the 400 relay team of Jared Sweno, Matt Vandeboom, Sam Dick and Mathew Annis was fourth in 45.27.
Stevens Point Pacelli had two relay teams earn spots at state. The girls 1,600 relay team of Casey Vaughan, Maggie Hahn, Maya Kunze and Chrissy Baron finished fourth in 4:15.38, and the boys 3,200 relay team of Jay Engebretson, Sam Carpenter, Adam Eiden and Gage Hoerter took fourth in 8:36.42 for the Cardinals.
